IDG’s Computerworld Selects Comerica to Annual List of Best Places to Work in Technology

DETROIT/May 8, 2002 - Comerica Incorporated (NYSE: CMA) announced today that it was selected as one of the best places to work in information technology (IT) by IDG’s Computerworld, the newspaper for IT leaders. The distinction comes as part of the weekly newspaper’s annual Best Places to Work in IT survey, which was published in the May 6th issue and online.

The Best Places to Work list is an annual ranking of the best work environments in the U.S. for IT workers. In 2002, the feature was expanded for the first time to include a unique view of companies from across the world. To compile the lists, Computerworld measured companies in several categories including diversity, training, career development, benefits, hot projects, retention and other criteria prospective IT employees find most compelling.

"This is the first time we have appeared among the top 10 on this prestigious list and we couldn’t be more thrilled," said Diane Thom, vice president and senior Human Resources consultant for Comerica. "It is a reflection of our increased focus on training and career development."

"Delivering excellent IT services to our business clients depends largely on our ability to attract and retain the best IT workers in the industry," said Donald Parker, senior vice president and officer-in-charge of Information Services for Comerica. "Making Comerica a ‘great place to work’ for great people has been a strategy of our management team for several years. This recognition from Computerworld is one indicator that our strategy is working."

"This year 's Best Places to Work rankings give us a compelling window into the work environments that technology people value most -- across industries and, for the first time, across cultures," said Maryfran Johnson, editor in chief of Computerworld. "In our research worldwide, we found that the best employers create IT workplaces with a commitment to career growth, skills development and work/life balance."
