DALLAS, May 22, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Latino Leaders magazine recently named Comerica Bank's Monica L. Martinez, senior vice president, Corporate Contributions for Texas and Arizona and National Hispanic Business Development, to the publication's "Top 10" list of corporate Latinas. As featured in the April issue, the list recognizes Hispanic women who have made outstanding contributions in their field and whose achievements serve as an inspiration to others.

"It's an honor to be among the trailblazers on the list," said Martinez. "I am fortunate to work for a company that values diversity, invests in its employees and gives back to the community."

Martinez has the dual roles of managing the Corporate Contributions function for the bank's Texas and Arizona markets as well as overseeing all aspects of the bank's involvement in Hispanic Business Development nationally.

She believes the economic power and influence of the Hispanic community in the United States are growing, providing opportunities for businesses to market goods and services to an increasingly important segment of the overall population. And Hispanic women are growing in importance in economic decision-making.

"According to a Nielsen study, Hispanic women, or Latinas, will comprise some 30 percent of the total female population by the year 2060," said Martinez. "This means Latinas will undoubtedly become an increasing focus of businesses looking to capture market share from among this dynamic demographic. Latinas are coming into their own in this new economy, and businesses that recognize their growing purchasing power will be the ones to be successful going forward."

In the capacity of National Hispanic Business Developer, Martinez serves as the liaison for the bank within the Hispanic community, directing Comerica's Hispanic business and community outreach in the bank's primary markets, which are comprised of Texas, Arizona, California, Florida and Michigan. In addition, she helps direct the bank's Hispanic Business Initiative teams and Hispanic Employee Resource groups. She is also accountable for growing business relationships and developing outreach initiatives with emphasis on the bank's expanding markets nationwide.

Fluent in Spanish and English, Martinez holds a bachelor's degree from Eastern Michigan University. She earned certificates in Non-Profit Management from Duke University and Corporate Community Relations Management from Boston College. Martinez is also a graduate of the prestigious SMU Management program and is certified in Diversity Management from Cornell University.

Martinez also has been named 2014 Latina of Influence by HispanicLifestyle.com and was among one of the 2014 "One Tough Cookie" honorees recognizing female leaders by the Girl Scouts of Southeastern Michigan.
