Comerica Bank's Monica L. Martinez Named to DBusiness “Powered by Women” List

Comerica Bank’s Monica L. Martinez, senior vice president, External Affairs and national director of Hispanic Business Development, is one of eight women recognized by DBusiness in its “Powered by Women” issue. The July/August edition of DBusiness features Martinez among the honorees who are driving growth in Michigan, the nation and the world.

Martinez is responsible for developing and maintaining relationships with Comerica’s key community stakeholders in Detroit and other cities throughout Michigan. She also oversees Comerica's Michigan Market corporate contributions program, and nationally serves as the bank’s liaison with the Hispanic community.

“I’m inspired by the women who have been recognized by DBusiness over the years in its ‘Powered by Women’ issue,” said Martinez. “Their leadership and determination have helped pave the way for other women to follow in their footsteps. I’m grateful to DBusiness for including me among such accomplished professionals.”

Fluent in Spanish and English, Martinez holds a bachelor’s degree from Eastern Michigan University, where she majored in International Business with a focus in Marketing. For her graduate work, she studied Interdisciplinary Technology with a concentration in Business Management at Eastern Michigan University. She has also earned certificates in Non-Profit Management from Duke University and Corporate Community Relations Management from Boston College. Additionally, Martinez is a graduate of the SMU Management program and is certified in Diversity Management from Cornell University.

Martinez serves in many capacities throughout the community, including:

  • Vice Chair of the Michigan Hispanic Chamber

  • Vice Chair for the national board of SER Jobs for Progress

  • Chairperson of the Girl Scouts of Southeast Michigan Hispanic Advisory Board

  • Board member of New Detroit

  • Board member of Metropolitan Affairs Coalition

Martinez has received numerous honors for her commitment to the community. In 2016, she was named as one of Corp! Magazine’s Diversity Business Leaders. She also received the inaugural Corporate Visionary Award at the 23rd Annual Dia de la Mujer Conference at Michigan State University and was among the 2016 Women that Soar honorees.
