George Smirnoff III Joins Comerica Bank as Chief Information Security Officer

DETROIT/Oct. 10, 2012 – George Smirnoff III has joined Comerica Bank as chief information security officer. The announcement was made by George Surdu, executive vice president and chief technology officer, for Comerica Bank.

Smirnoff will be responsible for overseeing Comerica’s comprehensive security program, including the development of long-term security strategies and ensuring that Comerica continues to meet all industry and regulatory security standards.

Smirnoff most recently served as the Executive Director, Global Chief Operating Officer of Operational Risk and Information Security Officer for Morgan Stanley, a position he held since 2009. In addition to this role, Smirnoff served as the Secretary for the Financial Services Sector Coordinating Council for Critical Infrastructure Protection and Homeland Security (FSSCC).

Smirnoff has nearly 20 years of technology experience, including leadership positions with Trexin Consulting, a management and business technology consulting firm where he served as managing director and partner; Ernst & Young, where he was senior manager and led the Information Management & Analysis Services service line; PRG-Schultz International; and Diamond Management & Technology Consultants, which was subsequently acquired by PwC.

Smirnoff holds a bachelor’s degree from Bucknell University, an M.B.A. from Cleveland State University and a Juris Doctor degree from the Cleveland-Marshall College of Law and is a Certified Information System Security Professional (CISSP).
