Comerica Celebrates Opening of New Banking Center in South Dallas by Donating Computers to Deserving Local Students
25 'Project Still I Rise' Students Selected for Academic Achievements; I-20 Wheatland Banking Center Becomes Comerica's 95th in Texas Market, 5th in South Dallas

DALLAS, TX (December 14, 2010) – Comerica Bank today opened its 95th full-service banking center in Texas, its I-20 & Wheatland location, at 2875 Wheatland Road in Dallas. The new banking center is the fifth Comerica location in South Dallas, and the third to be built in the area since 2009. To help celebrate the grand opening, Comerica donated $10,000 to Project Still I Rise, a local non-profit that provides mentoring and leadership development programs for South Dallas youth, to purchase laptops for students of low and moderate income families that have excelled both inside and outside the classroom.

Pat Faubion, Comerica’s Texas Market President, along with Irv Ashford, Comerica’s Senior Vice President of Community Development & External Affairs, and Tennell Atkins, Dallas City Councilmember for District 8, handed out the laptop computers and new backpacks to the surprised students during a holiday gifting ceremony at Comerica’s newest banking center.

“We believe in the work that Project Still I Rise is doing to empower youth in the South Dallas community, and to show our support, we decided to give laptops to their top 25 students to help them be more successful in their academic endeavors,” said J. Patrick “Pat” Faubion, Comerica’s Texas Market President. “This holiday gift is just one way that Comerica is helping shape a better future for South Dallas.”

“We are grateful Comerica Bank stepped up to recognize these very deserving students, the majority of whom do not have computers in their homes,” said Kevin Mondy, Executive Director of Project Still I Rise. “My kids are bright, motivated students with endless potential, but many of them don’t have access to educational tools, like computers, that so many of us take for granted. There is no doubt that Comerica’s computer gift will make an immediate impact on their schoolwork and personal development.”

Comerica’s Commitment to the Community

The charitable donation to Project Still I Rise marks the third time in recent months that Comerica Bank collaborated with a Dallas community-focused non-profit to serve a timely, critical need. In November, Comerica donated $10,000 to the Exchange Club of East Dallas to purchase winter coats for elementary school children, and this past August, Comerica donated $50,000 to Friends of the Dallas Public Library to purchase financial literacy materials, including books, audio books and DVDs, for two Southern Dallas library branches designated as greatly in-need.
