Comerica Bank Announces Online Voting for Lockwood Area Schools' Educational Improvement Projects
Five Schools Compete for $20,000 in Community Grants to Honor Comerica’s Houston Lockwood Banking Center’s 20th Anniversary
“Offering grants to improve the educational experience of Lockwood-area students is a fitting way to honor Comerica’s 20 years of service in the Lockwood neighborhood, and is consistent with our focus on raising expectations of what a bank can be in the community,” said J. Downey Bridgwater, Comerica’s Houston Market President.

HOUSTON, TX – (January 12, 2015) – Comerica Bank today announced that online voting on Facebook has begun for five Lockwood area schools vying for a total of  $20,000 in community grants to undertake special educational projects at their schools.

The community grants will be awarded to five schools that are located in close proximity to Comerica’s newly constructed Lockwood Banking Center.  The grants are part of Comerica’s “Reinvesting in Lockwood” community program, celebrating its 20th year of operation in Houston’s culturally-rich Fifth Ward. The participating schools are Atherton Elementary, Nathaniel Q. Henderson Elementary, Pugh Elementary, McReynolds Middle School and Phillis Wheatley High School.

“We look forward to engaging the public through this Facebook voting contest and awarding the grants in February in support of these worthwhile projects.”

To participate in the grant contest, nearby schools were invited to submit proposed projects to create, expand or improve primary school education. The public is invited to review these proposals and vote for their favorite one to help determine the grant awards. The school project receiving the most votes will garner $10,000; second place will receive $4,000; third place will earn $2,500; fourth place will get $2,000; and fifth place will receive $1,500.

Facebook voting runs from Jan. 12 through Jan. 30. Winning projects will be announced at a news conference at the banking center on Feb. 10.

Please visit www.comerica.com/lockwood to view the submissions and vote. Facebook users can vote once per day throughout the voting period.
