The Biggest Shred Day Yet: Shred Day DFW 2013
- 245,160 pounds of paper shredded and recycled
- 7,148 pounds of food for the North Texas Food Bank
- $6,598 in cash donations to the North Texas Food Bank
The Shred Day concept in Texas just keeps growing. While designed to bring the mission (educating consumers about identity theft, providing a free public service and raising food in the process for our local food banks) to life, the third annual Shred Day DFW and first annual Shred Day Houston events have delivered positive results.
As you may know, Comerica Bank and Iron Mountain currently hold the Guinness World Record for the most paper collected and shredded in a 24-hour period: 111,920 pounds at Shred Day DFW 2012. This year, we “shredded” our own world record by more than 66 tons (133,240 pounds, to be exact), despite not making an official attempt for the Guinness record books again.
So what? That means Comerica Bank helped thousands of North Texas consumers take steps toward preventing identity theft, keeping more than 122 tons of trash out of local landfills in the process. That’s equivalent to saving roughly 50,000 trees – in a single day! And while this could be considered a win-win scenario, layer in a successful food drive at a large-scale public event and the impact on the local community increases even more.
Thanks to our great event partners in Iron Mountain and the North Texas Food Bank, and a special thanks to all our colleagues who volunteered to help make Shred day DFW 2013 the biggest shred ever!
